Stay awake to break the habit

June 3, 2009

After Monday’s sudden change of weather, I wasn’t about to let the weather cheat me out of another water aerobics class, so at 8:45 I hauled all my gear up to the pool…and no one showed up. I wasn’t at all suprised. In fact, I would have been surprised if someone had arrived. Why? It was 54 degrees out. The pool, however, is heated, so I swam some laps all by my lonesome while letting my iPod run through its workout repertoire over the pool’s speakers. It was perfectly lovely, except for the fact that I now have Vampire Weekend’s M79 stuck in my head. This video, actually someone’s brilliant wedding stop-animation wedding invitation, uses the song for its soundtrack:

I am loving this song and its ska-infused groove that reminds me a little of early Police songs.

After getting myself together, I headed to a toy store to pick up a present for The Boy Across the Street who is having a birthday this weekend. I was a little melancholy being there without AJ. This is a wonderful toy store and we had so much fun the last time we were there. I watched several other small boys running around (some of the area schools are out already, although we have another week to go) and realized my toy store days are numbered. How did he get to be eight?

Back home to work and the minutes are slipping away before this day, this week, this school year ends. AJ is exuberantly counting down his exit from the second grade. I am trying not to chew all my fingernails off in horror of what I have left undone.
