Academic pestilence

January 19, 2010

From my inbox this morning, a CFP (that’s “call for papers,” for you non-academics):

*********************************************************
London International Conference on Education (LICE-2010),
September 6-8, 2010, London, UK
(www.liceducation.org)
*********************************************************

The London International Conference on Education (LICE) is
an international refereed conference dedicated to the advancement
of the theory and practices in education. The LICE promotes
collaborative excellence between academicians and professionals
from Education.

The aim of LICE is to provide an opportunity for academicians
and professionals from various educational fields with
cross-disciplinary interests to bridge the knowledge gap, promote
research esteem and the evolution of pedagogy. The LICE-2010
invites research papers that encompass conceptual analysis,
design implementation and performance evaluation. All accepted
papers will appear in the proceedings and modified
version of selected papers will be published in special
issues peer reviewed journals.

LICE? Really? That’s the best acronym you could come up with?

Sadly, that’s the best post I can come up with today. I’ve got to prepare for some evening speechifying, first a talk to the board of ed committee I’ve just joined to talk about both what our ideas are and also how we organized our group so quickly and then to the full board of ed. This latter one is the one I’m most nervous about, because I’m speaking on behalf of 100 or so people and I feel a tremendous responsibility to get it right. So off I go to verify my research.

Wish me luck.

Luck! And…you might want to check your scalp, too. You don’t want too much of that “research esteem” to git ya.

“The aim of LICE is to provide an opportunity for academicians

cross-disciplinary interests to bridge the knowledge gap, promote
research esteem and the evolution of pedagogy” . . . No, the aim of LICE is to live in your hair and spread to all your friends’ hair, too! Good lord — so much for “research esteem.”

Luck to you. Nix to the LICE.

I hope the board meeting went well. I think you should apply to LICE, just to have it on your resume.
