July 8, 2010

I’ve got the house to myself today. Mr. Spy and AJ are off at a White Sox game and I’m enjoying the chance to work at the kitchen counter. This is an excellent place to work because I can see out in three different directions. It’s always good to be able to plot your next escape. To my left is the front door. Although I can’t see through the door itself — the 9 gazillion percent humidity has forced us to turn on the air conditioning, lest the doors and windows all swell shut and we find ourselves trapped inside until winter — there is a huge window over the top with a view of the trees and the occasionally goldfinch. To my right I can see out the sliding doors to the kitchen garden (Go to myvegetablesummer to see the first cucumber of the season) and straight ahead I can look out through the screen porch to the side yard and a lot of day lilies and hosta flowers. It’s a nice place, at least until about 15 minutes from now when the sun streaming through the skylight will be focused like a laser beam on my head. Then I may head elsewhere.

I’m trying to polish off another chapter today. It’s difficult. I had a little too much coffee this morning and I’m having a hard time sitting still. And I’d really rather be outside (which looks much more pleasant from in here than it actually feels out there). But slowly things are getting done.

And with that, I’d better get back to work.
