Adventures in Solitude

September 13, 2011

This one’s for Violet, who’s been asking. I’m hoping she’ll be kind enough to ignore a) when I forget to come in to start the second verse and hang out on a G chord for too long, b) when I nearly drop my pick and have to stick it in my mouth to reseat it before I can continue and c) all the wrong notes. I’ve been trying to record this for a few weeks now and this may be as good as it gets, given that I’m spending some extra time on the road and away from my guitar over the next couple of weeks. But I hope you enjoy it, Violet!

I am so touched by this! I’ve had kind of a rotten day, and this is a wonderful surprise, and as you know, a favorite song of mine. It gives me chills, just thinking of it. I would forgive any mistake, and I’m sure I won’t notice. Thank you!

    Lovely!
I think I can see a reflection of clouds and trees in the guitar.

I’m glad you liked it, Violet. I am indebted to you for introducing me to this song, which is a favorite of mine too. Jill, if you do, it’s only my screen saver (a picture of Aspens that I took in New Mexico a few years ago) — I recorded this at my desk in my windowless office.
