While grumbling through my latest attempt to shave some time off my conference presentation, I came across a write-up about a Shakespeare conference at which presenters who go overlong are chased off the stage by a bear (as in exit pursued by). Just the incentive I need. And maybe something to liven up the annual meeting of music scholars, which shall remain nameless? Although perhaps something more musicological is required. Run off the stage by a belligerent Valkyrie, perhaps? Flattened by a falling anvil chorus? Seized by the fickle Guidonian hand of fate?

How about chased off by a knife-wielding Don Carlo Gesualdo?

Hauled to the underworld by a stone-faced uninvited dinner guest?

Really, opera just makes this all too easy.

I was going to throw out the statue idea, but I see you beat me to it.

Falling chandelier perhaps? Not proper opera (and you could really only use it the once) but it would be very dramatic.

Entered the country via Bangor: it was a 3 and a quarter hour wait on the tarmac but thankfully we had the big seats for this flight (who needs Clooney? I got Himself) so just turned ’em flat again and slept, not knowing what sort of driving conditions we would face on arrival at JFK Saturday. At 8PM the roads of our route outta there were fine and we were eating Little Sis’s chicken pot pie by nine.

Plenty of power here but no school today so we are trying to figure out how early we can go out T&Ting. I finished the nephew’s headless horseman costume at 3AM — let me hear it for jet lag — and it is far too distinctive for a second sweep. Plan A was to drive to CT Wednesday but been told by the farm to stay in NJ until they get power back. Newington is still 97% powerless so keep a good thought for PPG & Co.

Sorry you won’t be in NYC when we are there for three days next week. Catch you next time.
